Livestreams on Steam sale pages and developer homepages

27 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Most Steam broadcasts play in one place: the game's store page. Valve's Livestreaming documentation names two more, a developer homepage and a special sale landing page. Here is what each one takes, what Valve says about its own sales and fests, and how Steam picks a stream when there are several. Everything below comes from the Steamworks docs, checked 27 Oct 2026.

Where a Steam broadcast can play

Valve says a livestream can appear on your game's store page, your developer homepage or a special sale landing page. Streams also show in the Broadcast hub under Community, and a popular stream can be featured on the Steam home page.

Steam's own sales and fests: plan for your store page

This is the part people get wrong. A big Steam event has its own landing page, and it is natural to hope your stream lands there. For themed fests, Valve's themed sale events FAQ answers it: unless the event's own documentation says otherwise, livestreaming typically will not be featured on the sale page, but you are welcome to livestream on your own game's store page.

Valve's seasonal sale docs, including the page for the Winter Sale, say nothing about livestreams on the sale page. So for the Winter Sale and the themed fests on the 2027 calendar, the store page is the place to plan for. That is also where sale visitors land when they click your game.

Your own sale page

Developer, publisher and franchise sales are custom sale pages that partners can run once a calendar year, per Valve's sale page rules. You set up your Creator Home first, since it owns the event, then submit a sales questionnaire ticket at least three weeks before the start. If you hope for homepage featuring, Valve suggests asking about three months ahead, and says most pages do not meet that bar.

Valve's sale page livestreaming guide says any sale page can support livestreams, either from the games on the page or from Steam accounts you add to an approval list. It works like this:

▪Off by default. Open the "Broadcasting" tab and tick "on".
▪Approve accounts. The same tab lets you add specific Steam accounts and set their priority, so their streams appear first.
▪Placement. Streams appear at the very top of the page by default. Add a "broadcast" type section to show them lower down, for example under some text about the sale.
▪Several streams. With more than one live, the player lists them on the left of the video. Each shows the game's small capsule, and a screenshot from the stream on hover.

Which stream plays first

When someone opens the sale page, Valve picks one stream to play using these buckets, in order:

OrderStreams in the bucket
1Accounts on the Broadcast tab set to "Primary"
2Accounts set to "Featured", and streams with a live slot in the Event Schedule widget
3Accounts set to "Default"
4Accounts set to "General", and any official broadcast of a game on the sale page

If two or more streams sit in the same bucket, Steam picks one at random, which Valve says gives a fair split of viewers. In the list on the left, streams are sorted by bucket, then by viewer count. If one stream should always lead, add its account on the Broadcast tab as "Primary".

The sale page guide points to the standard broadcast documentation for setting up the stream itself, and does not add separate rules for how a stream is sent. It also promises nothing about a particular stream showing up, so check the page yourself once you are live.

Your developer homepage

A Creator home, the developer or publisher page that lists your games, can show a broadcast too. Valve's homepage guide gives two sets of steps:

▪v2 homepages. Open the "Broadcast" tab for your Creator home and select "on" for "Allow Steam Broadcasts to appear on event and store page". The player sits at the top and cannot be moved.
▪v1 homepages. Under Admin, Edit Creator Settings, find broadcast settings near the bottom. It is off by default. Once on, members of the homepage's community group with the right role can broadcast to it. By default that is only the group owner; change it on the group permissions page.

One stream only. Valve currently shows a single broadcast on a publisher page, the one with the highest viewership among those available.

What this means for a stream that runs all day

Your store page is the one place you fully control, and the one every visitor from a sale or fest reaches. Get that right first with the setup checklist. If you run your own sale, turn broadcasting on and add your streaming account as Primary. If you have a Creator home, switching it on costs nothing. For what to put on the stream, see what to show in a Steam broadcast.

Loopcast keeps a store page broadcast running from an uploaded video, with no PC left on at home, billed per minute on air. You can try it free for 7 days, no card needed.

FAQ

Will my broadcast show on the Steam Winter Sale page or a themed fest page?

Do not count on it. For themed fests, Valve says that unless the event documentation says otherwise, livestreaming typically will not be featured on the sale page, and that you are welcome to livestream on your own store page. Valve's seasonal sale docs say nothing about livestreams on the sale page.

How do I turn on broadcasts for my own Steam sale page?

Broadcasting is off by default on sale landing pages. Open the Broadcasting tab in the sale page tools and tick "on". There you can approve specific Steam accounts and set their priority.

Which stream plays when a sale page has several?

Valve picks by priority: accounts set to Primary first, then Featured accounts and streams with a live slot in the Event Schedule widget, then Default, then General accounts and official broadcasts of games on the page. Within a bucket it picks at random.

Can my developer homepage show a broadcast?

Yes, once you enable it. On a v2 Creator home, open the Broadcast tab and select "on". Valve shows one broadcast at the top of the page, the one with the highest viewership.

How often can I run my own developer or publisher sale page?

Valve says partners are eligible once a calendar year. Submit the sales questionnaire ticket at least three weeks ahead, or about three months ahead if you hope for homepage featuring.
