Steam game editions: Manage Editions and the Compare Editions image

30 Oct 2026 · 4 min read

Many games sell more than one version: the base game, and a Deluxe or Soundtrack edition with extra content. Steam's Manage Editions tool puts those versions at the top of your store page and adds a Compare Editions image so shoppers can see what each one includes. This guide covers when to use it, how to set it up and Valve's rules for the image, from Valve's Editions doc, checked 30 Oct 2026.

Edition or bundle?

Extra content such as a soundtrack or bonus material may or may not be sold on its own, and it can be grouped with the game and sold together. Valve says that in the vast majority of cases it benefits players to sell it as a Complete the Set bundle, so they buy only the content they do not already own; see Steam bundles. In some cases a new store package is created as a new purchase option instead, and that is where editions come in.

Set up Manage Editions

The Manage Editions button appears on your app landing page automatically, but only once your app has more than one store package. It works for packages only.

▪Open your game's App Landing Page and click Manage Editions.
▪Tick the packages that are editions of your game. They then show as the top purchase options on your store page, sorted by price from lowest to highest, above other purchase options that do not contain the base game.
▪At the bottom, drag in a comparison image of 748 x 896 px, and a localized version for each supported language.
▪Click Save, then publish your store page. Nothing shows to players until you publish.

By default only packages that contain the base game can appear on a game's store page, with rare exceptions. Marking them as editions makes sure they sit above any other purchase option there.

Compare Editions. Once set up, a Compare Editions option appears on your store page so shoppers can see the differences quickly. Valve says it is much easier to find than information they would have to scroll down and search for.

Capsule art under each edition

You can also show capsule art under an edition's purchase option. On your app landing page, click the package, scroll to Package purchase display, tick the checkbox and publish. Sizes for capsule art are in Steam capsule art sizes.

Rules for the Compare Editions image

▪Localize it. Upload versions for your supported languages; Valve calls it critical, so players everywhere understand the options.
▪No release dates or pre-purchase messages. Steam has better places for them, and they go out of date quickly.
▪Keep it simple. No unnecessary box art or key art; small text may be hard to read at this size.
▪No developer logos or other unnecessary art.
▪No legal text. Move it to the section of Steamworks made for it.

Where a broadcast fits

Valve's editions doc says nothing about broadcasts. What a store page broadcast adds is the game itself in motion, on the same page as the purchase options. Loopcast keeps one running from an uploaded video, billed per minute on air. You can try it free for 7 days, no card needed.

FAQ

It only appears for apps with more than one store package. It works for packages only.

What size is the Steam Compare Editions image?

748 x 896 px. You can upload a localized version for every supported language, and Valve calls localizing it a critical step.

Should I sell extra content as a new edition or a bundle?
