Live on Steam: what indie games do with store page broadcasts

26 Oct 2026 · 4 min read

Most advice about Steam store page broadcasts is opinion. This page is data: the Steam games that broadcast on their store page via Loopcast from 21 Sep to 26 Oct 2026, counted from our own logs. No names and no game counts, only shares, medians and hours. The games on air right now are on the live broadcasts page.

Most of them had not launched yet

About 7 in 10 games were still unreleased on 26 Oct 2026, shown on Steam as Coming Soon, and they account for 75% of all the hours on air. About 8 in 10 have a playable Steam demo. A store page broadcast is mostly a pre-launch tool: it gives a page with no reviews yet something moving above the screenshots. See broadcasting before launch and broadcasting a demo for the setup.

How long they stayed on air

The median game stayed on air for 166 hours. A week is 168, so the typical run is one week, around one event. A few kept going much longer.

Next Fest was the trigger

About 8 in 10 games started their first broadcast in October, and about 7 in 10 were on air during Steam Next Fest, 19 to 26 Oct 2026. Together they broadcast 1,834 hours in that week, 50% of all the hours on this page. The next festival runs 22 Feb to 1 Mar 2027: the Next Fest checklist has the deadlines, and broadcasting during Next Fest covers the week itself.

Which genres broadcast

Steam genres as each developer set them on the store page; a game usually has more than one, so the shares add up to more than 100%.

Indie, action and casual games lead. This is a small, early sample of what our users did, not a picture of Steam as a whole, so read the shares as a direction rather than a rule.

How we counted

▪Base: every Steam game whose store page got a broadcast via Loopcast from 21 Sep to 26 Oct 2026 that we can still match to its App ID. Our own test game, banned accounts and deleted streams are left out.
▪Hours: the time between a broadcast starting and stopping in our engine logs, checked against our per-minute billing records, which agree within 0.1%.
▪Genres, release status and demos: Steam's public store data for each App ID, read 26 Oct 2026.
▪Rounding: shares are rounded to the nearest 5%, hours to the nearest hour.
